Reza Monika, 19

A student from Bandung

I’m now 19 years old. Yes, I am young, but it does not mean I am incapable of helping the environment. I do have a calling. It started when my friend introduced me to Greenpeace. Just like any teenager, I was curious and excited to join the cause.

While people my age just fill their heads with theories on how to make this earth a better place, I take action for the environment.

I joined Greenpeace in 2012 and joined a Detox activity in my beloved hometown of Bandung. The action was held at the badly polluted Citarum river. Seeing the river’s present condition made me realize how I now live in dangerous times. Citarum is a water source for many communities, it alarmed me that many are unaware of the hazardous wastes being dumped in the water. Do they even know that their basic rights are being violated? Clearly, something must be done!

I may not be able to give financial support for Greenpeace at the moment. However, I will lend a hand to Greenpeace by taking action, whether in the streets or online. I recently posted about Protect Paradise on my Facebook and immediately my friends liked and shared it. It made me feel good to be able to raise awareness on environmental issues. Mother Earth needs our help, no matter our age and status in life. Let us answer her call.
